I just read an article about the shortages in nursing that England is dealing with.  It was written by Janet Davies and is entitled “There is a Cure for NHA: Give Nurses a Pay Raise”  The NHS is the National Health Service in England.

The article talks about the shortage of nurses in England and apparently a major contributing factor for this.  According to this article there is a shortage of about 40,000 nurses needed to staff the hospitals.   One factor is that funds have been cut to train student nurses which causes prospects to reconsider entering the field as they will start their career with a huge debt.  Another huge factor is that nurses have not had a pay raise in most cases for the past seven years.  The article said that if you look at their current pay stub it is about the same as it was seven years ago.  Of course the cost of living has increased over these seven years, so essentially they actually have taken a pay cut.

Hence, nurses are leaving to go abroad or are leaving nursing altogether.  The article said that people are making more money stocking supermarket shelves than working in nursing.  Anyone that has ever worked in a hospital or been in a hospital knows that the responsibilities and work itself is by far more taxing, so why would a nurse continue to work as a nurse?

Stocking Shelves In A Store

Things are not that bad in the United States, but there are a lot of other reasons that contribute to nurses leaving nursing in this country.  Although, when you look at the pay it really is not comensurate with all of the responsibilities a nurse assumes every day of her life.

What I want to focus on is that there are other options for these nurses in England and in the United States.  For those nurses that want to stay in nursing, there are possibilities as discussed in another website entitled Nurses Need Support.

Now, what about the nurses that don’t want to stay in nursing?  Are there options for them that will make them feel like they have not wasted their whole life and that will give them a sense of accomplishment?  The answer is yes.  Let me tell you about it.

The name of the company that I want to tell you about is Wealthy Affiliates.  What is Wealthy Affiliates?  I am going to tell you about it and why it is definitely an alternative to consider.
